Ogata attends Bangladeshi independence-day reception
Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on March 26 attended a reception held in Tokyo to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh.
Ogata expressed his congratulations to Bangladeshi Ambassador to Japan Rabab Fatima and had a friendly conversation with the ambassador.
Shii meets with incoming Iraqi ambassador
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on March 27 held talks with incoming Iraqi Ambassador to Japan Khalil Ismail Al Mosawi at the JCP head office in Tokyo.
The ambassador referred to the development of relationships between Japan and Iraq which started 80 years ago. He also touched on various topics, including the 15-years of attempts to recover from hardships, the coming general election slated for May, and tasks for overcoming sectarianism and work toward national reconciliation.
Shii expressed his hope for the further development of the two nations’ relations of friendship and explained the JCP position in regard to the 2003 Iraq War. Shii also said that the party criticized the Hussain administration which wielded dictatorial power, but that the party was opposed to any military action taken by external forces in violation of the UN Charter to bring down the Hussain regime. Shii went on to say that he hopes that Iraq will advance its nation-building process in a manner free from outside interference and which values the right to national self-determination.
Shii noted that in the adoption of the UN treaty banning nuclear weapons last July, Iraq expressed its support for the treaty. The ambassador said that as the head of an Iraqi foreign ministry department in charge of international relations, he worked hard for its adoption.
Fuwa talks with Chinese Academy of Social Sciences delegation
Japanese Communist Party Social Sciences Institute Director Fuwa Tetsuzo on March 27 received a delegation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences led by former academy president Wang Weiguang at the JCP head office in Tokyo.
Subjects on which Fuwa and the eight-member Chinese delegation exchanged their views included the significance of Marx’s theories in modern times, the historical development of Marx’s theories, and the current situation in Japan and China.
