Pressed by union efforts, university hospital in Tokyo withdraws no-bonus decision

July 19, 2020
Tokyo Women's Medical University Hospital on July 18 withdrew its decision, which was made due to financial difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic, to not pay the summer bonus this year. The labor union demanding the cancellation of the hospital decision in addition to Japanese Communist Party lawmakers' Diet debate led to the retraction of the no-bonus measure.

JCP Secretariat Head Koike Akira took up this issue at an Upper House health committee meeting on July 2 and urged the government to provide financial support to medical institutions facing deteriorating financial situations. JCP representative Fujino Yasufumi on July 15 at a Lower House Budget Committee meeting also demanded radical financial support in order to avoid overwhelming hospitals.
