The House of Representatives in its plenary session on November 19 adopted a resolution declaring a climate emergency by majority vote, including that of the Japanese Communist Party.
The suprapartisan-proposed resolution points out that climate change has been causing serious damage such as forest fires and heavy rains.
The resolution states, "The global warming issue no longer just climate change but becoming a crisis situation," and shows a commitment "to redesign the nation's economy and society in addition to strengthening efforts radically in order to realize a carbon-free Japan without delay".
