The Japanese Communist Party Central Committee held its 3rd Plenum on September 8 at the JCP head office in Tokyo, which was connected to 46 locations through video meeting apps.
The Central Committee issued a communique after the Plenum. Followings are excerpts of the communique:
The 3rd Plenum took place, with the in-person and online participation of 187 CC members and 27 alternate CC members, to form the resolution to prepare the party to achieve a major advance in the forthcoming House of Representatives general election.
Chair Shii Kazuo gave the report on behalf of the JCP Executive Committee.
Shii at first said that the goal of the meeting is to establish a consensus among all party members and party organizations so that daily party activities will be carried out in a manner similar to activities in a general election campaign. He then talked about the JCP’s views on Prime Minister Suga’s act of running away from his responsibilities in dealing with the pandemic as well as on the forthcoming general election.
Stating that the coming election has a historical significance as its results may determine Japan’s future course, he explained political issues which the party believes will be discussed in the election campaign and how to achieve the success of joint struggles of opposition parties and concerned citizens in the election.
Shii proposed to launch a major campaign aimed to increase efforts to achieve a major JCP advance in the general election before the election officially starts.
Following the discussion session in which 37 members spoke, Shii made concluding remarks on the discussion.
The Plenum ended after unanimously adopting the Executive Committee report and the concluding remarks, resolving to win a major JCP advance in the general election.
