Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on April 6 held talks with Moldovan Ambassador to Japan Dumitru Socolan at the Embassy of Moldova in Tokyo regarding the crisis in Moldova's neighboring country of Ukraine.
Ogata said that the JCP is condemning Russia for invading Ukraine in disregard of the UN Charter and international law, killing Ukrainian civilians, and threatening to use nuclear weapons. He explained that the party had long fought against Soviet hegemonism and that the party is always opposed to all acts of hegemony taken by any country, including Russia.
The ambassador said that Moldova, despite being a neutral state, is criticizing Russia for not ending its war, and that the Moldovan government as part of its humanitarian measures has so far accepted 390,000 Ukrainian refugees, including 95,000 children.
Moreover, the ambassador talked about measures to provide housing and healthcare to Ukrainian refugees as well as to prepare the necessary infrastructure. He expressed gratitude to international financial assistance pledged in a donor conference in Berlin on April 5 to help Moldova receive Ukrainian refugees.
