Regarding the government plan to accept Myanmar military officers for training in Japan, Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Inoue Satoshi at a House Foreign Affairs Committee meeting on April 28 said that the plan will mean to give endorsement to the Myanmar military and will damage Japan's trust from the international community and Myanmar citizens.
Inoue criticized the plan to accept four Myanmar military officers into the Japanese education and military training course in fiscal 2022, as was the case in 2021, and demanded the cancellation of that plan.
He said that an online meeting took place on April 27 between Myanmar's National Unity Government (NUG) and Japan's cross-party parliamentarians calling for democratization of Myanmar, and that a report that the Myanmar military still continues to crack down on citizens was made during the meeting. He also said that the NUG criticizes the Japanese government for siding with the Myanmar military.
In June last year, both the House of Representatives and the House of Councilors adopted resolutions denouncing the coup in Myanmar and called for the early recovery of civil administration. Inoue said that it is unacceptable for the government to accept the Myanmar military officers by completely ignoring the Diet resolutions.
