Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu at a press conference on September 6 announced that total expenses needed for former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo's "state funeral" slated for September 27 will be approximately 1.66 billion yen.
On the same day, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo tweeted on his Twitter account, "Up until a while ago, the Cabinet said that it would be about 250 million yen. It, however, has climbed to 1.66 billion yen, and there is no guarantee that the amount will not increase." He again demanded that the state funeral be canceled as it infringes on the constitutional right to freedom of conscience.
The 1.66 billion yen includes about 800 million yen for security, 600 million yen for the accommodation and reception of visiting foreign guests, 10 million yen for vehicles of the honor guard of the Self-Defense Forces in addition to the 250 million yen for the funeral hall.
