Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo, who is in charge of the JCP International Commission, held talks with Nicaraguan Ambassador to Japan Sandy Anabell Davila Sandoval at the JCP head office in Tokyo on July 11.
Topics in their talks included gender equality.
The ambassador noted that Nicaragua ranked 7th in the latest gender gap report published by the World Economic Forum, and explained that her nation promotes gender equality by such means as establishing relevant legislation.
Ogata said that as Japan lags behind the world in tackling gender issues, its ranking fell to 125th in the same report. He went on to say that the JCP is increasing its efforts to realize a gender equal Japan.
The two agreed to continue communicating with each other.
