A “group to bring a government change into reality” which consists of concerned citizens and politicians was formed. At its inaugural meeting held in Tokyo on October 26, Japanese Communist Party Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji delivered a speech in solidarity.
The group was established, regardless of political beliefs, for the purpose of promoting a nationwide movement to bring a government change into reality in order to defend people’s daily lives and the very foundations of democracy.
At the inaugural meeting, Constitutional Democratic Party member of the House of Representatives Ozawa Ichiro, “Reiwa Shinsengumi” party policy chief Tagaya Ryo, and Social Democratic Party Secretary General Hattori Ryoichi were present along with JCP Kokuta.
Kokuta in his speech called on participants to be confident in the achievement the joint struggle of concerned citizens together with opposition parties have made to date. He said, “We should stand together against the Liberal Democratic Party-led government which is responsible for the 30-year-long economic stagnation.”
Referring to the recent victory of citizens-backed candidates in the House of Councilors by-election in the Tokushima-Kochi district and in the Iwate gubernatorial election, he called for a further increase in cooperation between concerned citizens and opposition parties to bring about change in policies.
CDPJ Ozawa pointed out, “The opposition force has won in most elections, including local elections, where opposition parties unitedly supported an agreed-upon candidate,” adding, “It is a duty of opposition parties to create a government to serve in the interests of the general public.”
