The All-Japan Teachers and Staffs Union (Zenkyo) on May 29 issued a statement calling for the cancellation of the project to invite schoolchildren to the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai and for the cancellation of the Expo itself.
The statement notes that many people, including teachers and parents, are concerned about the invitation project.
The statement points out that the soil at the Expo site is reportedly contaminated, and that a methane explosion occurred at the site but the full extent of the accident is not yet clear. It concludes that under the threat of a recurrence, safe field trips would not be possible.
It reiterates that many citizens have doubts about the significance of the holding of the Expo at such a huge cost, and again calls for the cancelation of the invitation project and the 2025 Expo.
