A U.S. airman stationed at the U.S. Yokota Air Base (Tokyo) was arrested on the spot on July 12 in Okinawa Prefecture for drunk driving.
This came to light with information given by the Defense Ministry to Tokyo’s Fussa City which hosts the Yokota base.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the day. The 25-year-old Air Force captain, while driving a normal passenger car, crashed into a Japanese vehicle stopped at a traffic light on a street in Okinawa City. There was no personal injury. Alcohol level, four times higher than the legal limit, was detected on the airman’s breath.
The Okinawa Prefectural government’s bureau in charge of U.S. base issues said that it was contacted by the Defense Ministry’s local bureau two hours after the incident.
