US chopper makes emergency landing in rice paddy in Kanagawa Prefecture

August 4, 2024
A U.S. military helicopter made an emergency landing in a rice field in Kanagawa’s Ebina City.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on the day. About half past noon, the helicopter, which had Navy markings and crew of 12, left the rice paddy just a few meters from the area where public facilities such as an elementary school and a special nursing-care home are located.

Japanese Communist Party members of the Ebina City Assembly, Suzuki Sayoko and Matsumoto Masayuki, conducted the on-site observations.

In response to the incident, a local peace group sent Defense Minister Kihara Minoru a written request demanding that the government investigate the incident and urge the U.S. military to take thorough safety measures and fully compensate for damages in a sincere manner.
