After walking along various routes throughout Japan for three months, the 2024 National Peace March calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons on August 4 arrived at its final destination, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima City, getting a warm round of applause from local peace activists.
At a rally held after the arrival of the march, Kanbe Yasushi on behalf of the rally organizers delivered a speech, and said, “The Japanese government should participate in the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Let us work to increase the public demand calling for preparing for peace, not for war!”
Messages from Hiroshima Mayor Matsui Kazumi and Hiroshima City Assembly Chair Motani Tatsunori were read out.
