Japanese Communist Party Dietmembers Kami Tomoko and Nihi Sohei, both members of the House of Councilors, and Tamura Takaaki, a House of Representatives member, on August 8 visited the Japanese Red Cross Nagasaki “A-bomb hospital” and a Nagasaki “A-bomb nursing-care home” in Nagasaki City.
At the Nagasaki A-bomb hospital, the JCP Dietmembers received a briefing by Hospital Director Taniguchi Hideki on the general situation of medical treatment for A-bomb survivors (Hibakusha).
Nihi noted that the rate of outpatient visits by Hibakusha in Hiroshima has increased since the Hiroshima High Court ruled that people who had been exposed to the “black rain” after the bombing are Hibakusha with A-bomb-related diseases. He said, “It is our responsibility to realize the same recognition given to Nagasaki A-bomb disease sufferers as well.”
Taniguchi said in response, “If the same applies to Nagasaki survivors, I think the consultation rate will rise.”
Visiting Hibakusha at the nursing home, Kami said, “We will do our utmost to ensure that all Hibakusha receive proper support from the national and local governments and work to establish a world without nuclear weapons.”
