Koike: JCP not commenting on CDPJ’s ‘mission-oriented Cabinet’ concept

August 21, 2024

Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira on August 20 said to the press corps that the JCP is not commenting on the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan’s concept of a “mission-oriented Cabinet” in which opposition parties will work together on each policy matter.

Koike said this in regard to an Asahi Shimbun report on the day that at talks held between JCP Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko and CDPJ leader Izumi Kenta on the previous day, they confirmed that the JCP will not participate in the CDPJ-proposed “mission-oriented Cabinet”.

Koike said that in the talks with Tamura, Izumi only provided a brief explanation of the “mission-driven Cabinet” concept. Koike stressed, “We made neither evaluation nor comment on that idea.” He said that the article in the Asahi Shimbun is based on speculation.

According to the Asahi Shimbun, CDPJ head Izumi, explaining the idea for a new government to JCP Tamura, said that in this plan, the CDPJ and the Democratic Party for the People will play a core part under a “mission-oriented Cabinet”. The two leaders confirmed that the JCP will not join this plan.
