A candidate whom the Japanese Communist Party voluntarily supported on December 22 won his first election for mayor of Osaka’s Shijonawate City, defeating his opponent, a former city assemblymember.
During the election campaign, 36-year-old Zeniya Sho, a former city employee, pledged to “protect the lives and livelihoods of Shijonawate residents” and “respond to their demands”.
