JCP mourns Norway’s terror victims

Japanese Communist Party International Commission member Tashiro Tadatoshi on July 25 visited the Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo to express the party’s condolences for the victims of the terrorist killings in Norway. Minister Counselor Tor Dahlstrom thanked the Japanese people for their show of sympathy for those victimized by the terrorist act.
JCP Secretariat Head meets new Chinese minister counselor

JCP Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi on July 26 received the new minister counselor of the Chinese Embassy, Han Zhiqiang, at Ichida’s office in the Diet building. Ichida welcomed Han’s assuming for the post and exchanged with him views on domestic and international issues.
JCP Chair sends message of congratulations to new Peruvian president

JCP Chair Shii Kazuo on July 28 sent a letter to offer his congratulations to Peru’s new President Ollanta Humala. President Humala, under the ticket of the leftist alliance Gana Peru, which is mainly led by the Peruvian Nationalist Party, won the presidential runoff election in June.
Shii in his letter of congratulations said, “I hope that the new government will have a great success in raising the living standard and achieving independent democratic social development in line with the Peruvian people’s expectations. The JCP will strive to develop the friendship between the two peoples who have a long history of interchange. We also hope that exchanges between the two governments will advance in various challenges to work for social progress and for peace such as the call for the abolition of nuclear weapons.”
JCP Vice Chair meets Cuban goodwill ambassador

Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on August 1 met with Aleida Guevara, a goodwill ambassador of Cuba, at the JCP head office in Tokyo.
Aleida said that she was delighted to meet Ogata again and that she visited Ishinomaki City (Miyagi Pref.) and Minamisoma City (Fukushima Pref.) to encourage the 3.11 disaster victims.
Ogata expressed his gratitude for the profound sympathy given by the Cuban government to the disaster sufferers, and explained about ongoing JCP activities to relieve the victims and response to the Fukushima nuclear crisis.
Ogata also spoke about the JCP call for a Japan without nuclear power plants and about the change in Japanese public opinion towards opposing nuclear power.
Aleida Guevara is a pediatrician and the eldest daughter of Ernest Che Guevara.
