Ichida attends China-Japan Friendship Association reception
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi on April 25 attended a reception to welcome the new president of the China-Japan Friendship Association on his visit to Japan, Tang Jiaxuan, at a Tokyo hotel.
Ichida congratulated Tang Jiaxuan on his new position and talked with other participants.
JCP vice chair gives speech in East Timor
JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on April 25 gave a speech at the closing session of the International Conference on “Peace and Reconciliation in Asia” held in Dili, East Timor.
Ogata in his speech called for the need to expand ASEAN’s peaceful, trust-building experiences to Northeast Asia.
The JCP vice chair stated that the 45 years history of ASEAN has contributed to the promotion of peace diplomacy and security in order to prevent conflicts, break free from big powers, remove permanent foreign military bases, and promote confidence-building dialogue and cooperation in the region.
He also stated that establishment of a multilateral framework for peace and stability in Northeast Asia and an East Asian Community would be possible if the 6-Party Talks succeed in denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, though difficult at this moment.

The 2-day Conference closed on April 26 by adopting the East Timor declaration. The Conference “marked the soft launching of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC).”
The Declaration states that the APRC is “designed to advise and assist Asian governments ruling in the aftermath of internal conflicts and to help solve the difficult problem of transition to democracy and the return to popular governance.” The APRC, separate from governments, plays a complementary role.
The Conference took place under the auspices of the East Timorese government and cohosted by the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and the Centrist Asia Pacific Democrats International (CAPDI).
Ogata meets Fretelin leader
Ogata on April 27 met with Arsenio Paixao Bano, vice-chairman of the Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (Fretelin), in Dili in East Timor.
Ogata said that he is pleased with the progress in relations of friendship between the JCP and Fretelin, and talked about the current political situation, including international relations, in Japan.
Bano talked about his party’s activities and social economic issues facing the country.
