JCP Ogata calls for making success of NPT Review Conference

March 1, 2010
Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on February 28 delivered a guest speech at the Bikini Day National Rally held by the Japan Council against A & H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) in Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

Emphasizing the importance of this year’s Bikini Day National Rally, Ogata called for greater efforts to achieve a success at the upcoming Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference scheduled to be held in May in New York.

Ogata pointed out that with its long time efforts through various activities such as the World Conference against A & H Bombs, Japan Gensuikyo has established cooperative relations with other countries’ governments and NGOs, and that such relationships enable it to develop further under new situations.

Regarding the fact that Japan Gensuikyo is sending a large delegation to the NPT Review Conference, an arena of diplomatic negotiation, Ogata said that it will be of enormous historical significance.

Citing that the JCP in its 25th Congress held in January resolved to make its utmost effort to achieve a success of the NPT Review Conference, which is important to achieve a “world without nuclear weapons,” Ogata said, “I believe that the JCP is the only political party working hard for peace and anti-nuclear weapons tasks and that we will work together to make a success in activities planned to hold in New York.”
