Yoshii Hidekatsu, Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Representatives, urged Defense Minister Kitazawa Toshimi to observe strictly the three principles banning arms exports.
The defense minister indicated his intention to review the principles, saying, “It is better to carry out a fundamental discussion.”
In the House Budget Committee meeting on February 9, Yoshii asked about corporate influence in Kitazawa’s position on the proposal by the Japan Business Federation (Nippon Keidanren) which is calling for a review and revision of the three principles.
Although Kitazawa replied that he will observe the three principles as “basic principles for a peaceful country to avoid international conflict”, he added, “In a meeting with defense-related industries on January 21, they made the same proposal (as Nippon Keidanren) so I think we should consider the proposal”.
Yoshii criticized Kitazawa for advocating a review of the three principles as a cabinet minister.
