JCP recruits over 10,000 new members in the last eleven months

August 2, 2008
The Japanese Communist Party received 1,049 new members in July, and the readership of its publication, Akahata increased for three consecutive months up to July.

Since the 5th session of the JCP Central Committee (24th Congress) in September 2007, more than 10,000 people have joined the JCP. This reflects the present state of many people, including conservatives and those who have no political party to support, who are concerned for the future of Japan because of the failure of the Liberal Democratic-Komei coalition government’s “structural reform” policies. .

A young worker decided to join the JCP after being impressed by the questioning by JCP Chair Shii Kazuo in the Diet on February 8, in which he said, “Our country will have no future if it continues to allow companies to use ‘throwaway’ workers.

A woman who has a child to bring up decided to join the JCP after she listened to JCP Chair Shii making a speech marking the 86th anniversary of the JCP. She said, “I was called upon to live a life devoted to social change. I want to take such a path.”

People in their 60s and 70s are also joining the party hoping to translate their anger at the health insurance system that discriminates against the elderly aged 75 and over into action.

Farmers who say they are inspired by the JCP’s plan for agricultural revitalization are also joining the party. - Akahata, August 2, 2008
