On the first day of the extraordinary Diet session on October 29, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo pledged to strongly urge the Noda Cabinet to seek citizens’ verdict over its policies by swiftly dissolving the Lower House and hold a general election.
In his speech at a JCP Dietmembers’ meeting, Shii stated that the Noda Cabinet has a grave responsibility for turning its back on citizens’ demands on every national issue, including the increase in the consumption tax rate.
Shii talked about the emerging confrontation between the two major currents in the political arena: a rise of reactionary forces and the historic development in the people’s struggles to create a new political path.
The ruling Democratic Party of Japan, the Liberal Democratic Party, and the “third force,” are all based on the old political framework in favor of the U.S. government and Japanese business circles, Shii criticized.
Stressing the JCP’s role in proposing alternative policies on key issues, Shii called on JCP parliamentarians to hold Diet deliberations to highlight the party’s capability to realize genuine reform.
