The leaders of the four opposition parties on June 4 assembled in the Sugamo shopping district in Tokyo to jointly call for a repeal of the recently introduced medical insurance system for the elderly aged 75 and over.
Japanese Communist Party Shii Kazuo, Democratic Party Ozawa Ichiro, and Social Democratic Party Fukushima Mizuho took part in the public event concerning a bill to abolish the new medical system which is presently being discussed in the House of Councilors.
JCP Shii emphasized that there is widespread anger aimed at the medical system that started in April. “We must join forces so that such an extremely adverse law will be abolished immediately,” he stressed.
“Millions of the elderly aged 75 and over are now cut off from the medical insurance system that covers families and are being forced to pay more. How cold-hearted this is!” he added. - Akahata, June 5, 2008
