Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo attended a reception at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo on April 26 to welcome the arrival of the Olympic flame to Japan.
Shii wished Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cui Tiankai a great success in the Beijing Olympic Games.
Referring to the Chinese government’s readiness to meet with a representative of the Dalai Lama on the issue of Tibet, Shii said, “I sincerely hope that the dialogue will pave the way for a solution of the issue.”
The torch relay in Japan was held on April 27 in Nagano City, the host city of the 1998 Winter Games.
