2 labor laws enacted; JCP votes against

November 28 & 29, 2007
Two labor bills, a bill to revise the Minimum Wage Law and Labor Contract bill, were enacted after being passed by the majority vote of the Liberal Democratic, Komei, and Democratic parties in the House of Councilors plenary session on November 28.

The Japanese Communist Party voted against the two bills on the grounds that the bill to revise the Minimum Wage Law will not lead to a meaningful increase in the minimum wage and that the Labor Contract bill will enable employers to arbitrarily worsen working conditions without the consent of employees.

In a Labor Committee meeting the day before, the JCP submitted an amendment to the bill to revise the Minimum Wage Law, but this amendment was voted down.
