It has come to light that while emphasizing the need for cuts in public assistance payments, the Japan Restoration Party (Nippon Ishin no Kai) depends heavily on government funds for its very existence.
In a new program adopted at its first convention on March 30, the JRP clarifies that the party will work to have the government hold back from giving too much welfare support and draw a distinction between self-help, community-help, and government-help for people in need. The party also calls for the elimination of vested interests which they claim welfare recipients have.
The party’s stance on social security is to press people to depend on their own efforts in order to slash government spending for welfare payments.
According to the party’s budget approved at the same congress, its expected revenues for FY2013 will be about 2.9 billion yen in total, and as much as 2.7 billion yen or 94.14% of the total will come from the national subsidy for political parties. Only 15 million yen will be funded by party membership dues, its measly contribution to its own “self-help”.
