JCP publishes Upper House election policy

June 7, 2013
The Japanese Communist Party on June 6 issued its campaign platform for the upcoming House of Councilors election.

JCP Chair Shii Kazuo said at a press conference that the “confrontation between the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the JCP” will become the key word in the campaign. He pointed out three main harmful characteristics of the Abe government: doing whatever the United States wants, putting priority on financial circles’ demands, and denying Japan’s responsibility for the war of aggression. The chair displayed his resolve to face the ruling party head on and work for a major advance in the election.

The five main components in the JCP campaign pledge are as follows:

Put a stop to the big business-oriented economic policy called ‘Abenomics,’ and get Japan’s economy on the recovery track by blocking the planned consumption tax increase and implementing measures to boost people’s incomes.

Frustrate the government’s attempt to restart idled nuclear reactors and export nuclear power plants abroad, as well as urge it to break away from nuclear power generation immediately. Call for a bold policy shift to encourage the use of renewable energy.

In order to protect people’s livelihoods, oppose the government’s plan to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks. Aim to create a truly independent Japan by repealing the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty and removing all U.S. bases from the country. Contribute to establishing peace in Asia and in the world through autonomous diplomacy.

Stop the Abe administration from pushing for constitutional revision, protect the Constitution, and work to build a government that respects the supreme law.

Thwart any attempt to affirm and glorify Japan’s war of aggression and its colonial rule over other Asian nations.
