UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Angela Kane will deliver a speech at the opening plenary of the 2013 World Conference against A and H Bombs on August 7 in Nagasaki City.
This will be the second time for her to attend after her first appearance in last year’s anti-nuclear weapons conference. The organizing committee of the annual conference will include a UN high official for the sixth consecutive year.
In a letter the Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) received on June 25 responding to the invitation to attend this year’s conference, she said she is looking forward to speaking at the meeting and joining in discussions.
Last year, she read out a message on behalf of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and expressed her support for the antinuke effort in Japan.
