Shii talks with South African ambassador
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo held talks with South African Ambassador to Japan Mohau Pheko on November 12 at the JCP head office in Tokyo.
This is the second time for the ambassador to visit the JCP headquarters this year following her last visit in February. Pheko questioned Shii about Japan’s current political situation and in particular the JCP proposal to form a “national coalition government” in order to repeal the war legislation.
Shii explained the danger and unconstitutionality of the enacted security legislation, adding that the JCP initiative has generated a favorable response from the general public.
The JCP head also referred to the fact that the New Agenda Coalition (NAC), consisting of seven nations including South Africa, presented to the UN General Assembly in October a resolution calling for opening multilateral negotiations to realize a nuclear-weapons-free world. Noting that antinuclear movements in Japan are pushing for the commencement of an international negotiation on a treaty to ban all nuclear arms, Shii expressed his hope for cooperating with South Africa for the same end. The ambassador replied that her country will welcome the help of the JCP.
JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo also attended the talks.
Shii offers condolences to French ambassador on victims of terror attacks
JCP Chair Shii visited the French Embassy in Tokyo on November 16 to express his condolences on those who were killed in the recent terrorist attacks in Paris.
Shii signed his name in the condolence book and said to French Ambassador to Japan Thierry Dana, “Terror attacks cannot be allowed for any reason. The global community needs to unite urgently in order to eliminate terrorism from around the world. The JCP will make further efforts to attain this goal.”
Appreciating Shii’s call, the ambassador said that he is moved by expressions of sympathy and solidarity from individuals and organizations in Japan, including political parties.
JCP Vice Chair Ogata accompanied Shii on his visit to the embassy.
