Chinese government should adopt stance reflecting point reached in international recognition of human rights: JCP

The Chinese government refused to allow Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo and his family members to go to Oslo to attend the Nobel Prize award ceremony held on December 10. Furthermore, it requested other nations to not send their delegates to the ceremony. As a result, how the Chinese government deals with human rights issues has again attracted international attention.

COP 16 reveals Japan’s isolation

The purpose of the 16th United Nations International Climate Change Conference (COP16), which convened in Cancun, Mexico from November 29 to December 10 was to prepare the basis for a new international agreement to counter global warming after 2013 at the COP 17 to be held in South Africa at the end of 2011.

JAL’s forcible dismissal violates ILO conventions

Pilots and cabin attendants of Japan Airlines (JAL) on December 10 requested the International Labor Organization (ILO) to urge the Japanese government to investigate JAL’s dismissal plan and instruct the company to redress the situation.
