Does Japan have too many public employees?

The major political parties are competing with each other in calling for a reduction in the number of public employees. Both the Democratic Party of Japan and the Liberal Democratic Party demand that the number of public employees be cut by 20 percent while the Your Party is calling for a cut in the workforce of 100,000. Does Japan really have too many public workers as they claim?

JCP issues statement on Upper House election results

The Japanese Communist Party Standing Executive Committee on July 12 issued the following statement on the House of Councilors election results:

Koizumi’s ‘structural reform’ policy revives under Kan - Akahata 'clear stream, muddy stream' column

Imposing heavier burdens on the general public is openly called for by Prime Minister Kan Naoto, who used to criticize the “structural reform” policies promoted by the Koizumi Cabinet under the former Liberal Democratic-Komei coalition government.
