Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo told Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung that Shii has no intention to interfere with Vietnam’s energy policy but considers it a duty, as a comrade and a communist, to speak of the dangers associated with exporting nuclear power plant technologies from Japan to Vietnam.
10,000 people marched in demonstration through Fukushima City on October 30, shouting, “No nuclear power plants! Completely clean up radiation contaminated sites! Full compensation is a must!”
Public concern is growing that the entry into the TPP free-trade pact will threaten domestic food safety. The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has called on other countries to revise their food safety-related regulations. If Japan joins in the TPP negotiations, such requests will likely be presented by the U.S.
