In Kagoshima’s Soo City mayoral election held on July 21, a Japanese Communist Party member defeated the incumbent candidate who was backed by the Liberal Democratic and Komei parties, becoming the eighth JCP municipal head in the nation.
Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, who continues refusing to acknowledge Japan’s past war as a war of aggression, deliberately disregards the results of a Japan-China joint historical research launched during his first administration, points out a Japanese historian.
In the July 21 Upper House election, the Japanese Communist Party significantly increased its seats from three to eight. Combining with the three uncontested ones, the JCP now holds eleven seats in the upper chamber, regaining the qualification for the right to submit bills to the Diet.
