In the mayoral election of Ichikawa Town in Hyogo Prefecture, a Japanese Communist Party candidate defeated the incumbent. With this, the number of JCP mayors in the prefecture increased to two.
In the Peace Memorial Ceremony for victims of the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Hibakusha and the Nagasaki City mayor expressed their opposition to the Abe government-proposed war legislation.
JCP Chair Shii Kazuo held talks with French Communist Party national secretary Pierre Laurent at the JCP head office in Tokyo. They confirmed that the two parties will develop their cooperation and solidarity relations in regard to common global tasks.
