At a JCP Dietmembers’ assembly on the opening day of the 203rd extraordinary session of the Diet, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo expressed his determination to grill the government about Japan’s non-participation in the UN nuclear weapons ban treaty.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato Katsunobu in his regular briefing commented on the news that the UN nuclear weapons ban treaty will take effect on January 22 of 2021, and repeated the Japanese government’s position to not sign and ratify the treaty.
At a rally held in Nagasaki’s peace memorial park, Tanaka Shigemitsu, who heads a Hibakusha group, with tears of joy said, “We Hibakusha are all glad that we are still alive to witness this great day at last.”
