JCP lawmakers attend meetings to inaugurate local chapters of Liberal Party

November 27, 2016
The Liberal Party, an opposition party which was previously known as the People’s Life Party, recently held meetings to announce the establishment of its prefectural chapters in Tokyo and Osaka. JCP lawmakers attended the meetings to express solidarity along with representatives of other opposition parties.

LP President Ozawa Ichiro gave a speech in the assembly held in Tokyo on November 25. “If the opposition parties unite to fight the upcoming general election, we will win. Let’s work together to form an alternative government to the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic and Komei parties,” he said.

Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Representatives Kasai Akira delivered a speech in solidarity. Noting that the JCP is calling for forming an opposition coalition government, he said, “The Abe administration’s runaway policies have no future. Under the banner of defending democracy and social justice, we need to join hands in earnest.”

The next day, JCP member of the House of Councilors Tatsumi Kotaro attended a similar gathering held in Osaka.

Tatsumi referred to the fact that the PLP supported JCP candidates in the July Upper House election. “In the bid to overthrow the Abe government, the JCP will continue to make joint efforts with other opposition parties and citizens concerned,” he said.

Each of the meetings was also attended by representatives of the Democratic and Social Democratic parties.
