Representatives of the Mayors for Peace, a global network of antinuke cities, on November 24 met with Foreign Minister Kishida Fumio and handed over a written request urging Prime Minister Abe Shinzo to play a role in realizing a Nuclear Weapons Convention.
The document was adopted in early November in the annual general meeting of the domestic member cities, following the Japanese government’s “No” vote to the UN resolution to launch negotiations on the nuclear weapons-ban treaty in 2017.
