The Okinawa Police on February 26 apprehended a Petty Officer First Class assigned to the U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base in Kanagawa Prefecture on suspicion of drunk driving.
At around 1:00 a.m. on February 26, a police officer spotted a car turning left without flashing a signal in Okinawa’s Chatan Town and ordered it to pull over. As the driver reeked of alcohol, the policeman conducted a breath test. It detected alcohol at nearly four times the legal limit.
According to the police, the suspect drank beer and tequila until around 11:00 p.m. on the previous day and then drove the car, believing that he already sobered up.
The seaman was visiting Okinawa during his holidays.
