Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on May 11 sent a congratulatory message to new South Korean President Moon Jae-in of the Democratic Party of Korea. The text of his message is as follows:

Please allow me to congratulate you on taking office as the 19th President of the Republic of Korea.
I hope that you, as the new President, will respond to the public expectations and succeed in achieving the economic prosperity and improving people’s livelihoods as well as enhancing the prospects for peace and stability in East Asia.
I have hope for the enhancement of friendship and cooperation between Japan and South Korea as well as new developments of exchanges between our party and the South Korean government.
