JCP protests against military attacks on Syria staged by the US, Britain, and France
Kazuo Shii
Chair, Japanese Communist Party
Member of the House of Representatives of Japan

On April 13, the US Trump administration carried out joint military attacks on Syria with Britain and France, claiming that the Syrian regime used chemical weapons.
The use of chemical weapons, regardless of who uses them, is an outrageously brutal act against humanity and international law. In Syria, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was scheduled to launch an investigation into the alleged chemical attacks on April 14.
It is a violation of the UN Charter and international law that the US, Britain, and France launched strikes on Syria before the international community verified the facts and the UN authorized a military response. The Japanese Communist Party expresses its strong protest against the attacks by the three countries.
In April of last year, the US attacked Syria under the pretext of the use of chemical weapons. However, military responses have not helped resolve the conflict but only aggravated the situation in Syria and the Middle East.
The JCP calls on the global community to work together to get to the bottom of the alleged chemical attacks in Syria and to totally abolish chemical weapons. We also call for diplomatic efforts to end the civil war through political dialogue in line with the UN Security Council resolutions on Syria.
