Shii meets with Vietnamese ambassador

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on April 18 visited Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Ngyen Ouoc Cuong in the Embassy of Vietnam in Tokyo and exchanged views regarding creating a Korean Peninsula free of nuclear weapons and building a peaceful framework in Northeast Asia.

Shii handed to the ambassador a statement he published on April 6 that was forwarded to countries involved in the Six-Party Talks, and stressed the importance of promoting efforts to denuclearize the peninsula and to establish peace in the region step by step in an integrated manner.

Shii told the ambassador that the JCP focuses on the role the Vietnamese government might undertake in an effort to bring peace to the peninsula as Vietnam has friendly relations with both North Korea and South Korea.

The ambassador in response said, "On this issue, we share the views with your party," and added that Vietnam supports North Korea's commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and that war must be prevented. He also said that he will convey the JCP statement to the government of Vietnam.

Shii meets with Singaporean ambassador

The ambassador pointed out, "The situation on the Korean Peninsula has a huge effect on not only Northeast Asia but also the entire world," and said that ASEAN will work to help create a peaceful Korean Peninsula through such means as the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in which Pyongyang and Seoul are participants.

Shii handed to the ambassador the statement he issued to relevant parties concerned with the Six-Party Talks. The ambassador said that he will forward the statement to the government of Singapore.
