Shii sends congratulatory message to Mahathir

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on May 15 sent a message congratulating Mahathir bin Mohamad on his taking office as Malaysian prime minister.

By recalling that Mahathir had once said in an Akahata interview that peace cannot come through military threats and that the option of war is outdated, Shii expressed his hope for development of cooperation between the Malaysian government and the JCP in the field of peace and social progress such as in the effort to achieve a total ban on nuclear weapons.
