Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on May 20 received a visit by the newly-appointed South Korean Ambassador to Japan Nam Gwan-pyo at the JCP head office in Tokyo.
The ambassador expressed his intent to work to improve relations between Japan and South Korea, and asked Shii for the JCP’s cooperation to help to realize this.
In response, Shii extended a warm welcome to the ambassador and said that as a political party, the JCP will make efforts contributing to the friendship not only between the two peoples but also between the two nations.
Shii and Nam exchanged views on bilateral ties and the issue of establishing peace in northeast Asia.
JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo, who also chairs the party’s International Commission, joined the talks.
