Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on December 5 expressed his sincere condolences to family and friends of the well-known humanitarian activist Dr. Nakamura Tetsu who was killed in a gun attack in Afghanistan, and said, “His death is a big loss for the international community.”
Shii noted that Dr. Nakamura was devoted to provide non-military support in the field of healthcare and agriculture in Afghanistan under unsafe conditions. Shii said, “He embodied the ideals of fostering Japan’s international contribution based on Article 9 of the Constitution.”
Shii recalled that Dr. Nakamura opposed every government move to send the Self-Defense Forces abroad by saying that such a move will endanger Japanese NGOs’ non-military activities overseas. Shii added that Akahata carried Nakamura’s interviews in which he made his message clear many times.
