The group of Japanese Communist Party members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly on February 3 demanded that Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko urgently strengthen countermeasures against new coronavirus-induced pneumonia.
The 18-member JCP group stressed the need to take into full account basic human rights when implementing measures to prevent the spread of pneumonia caused by infection with the new coronavirus.
The core of their demand:
- Reinforce the system of public health centers, the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Public Health, metropolitan hospitals, and metropolitan hospital corporations;
- increase the number of beds in rooms for infectious diseases in Tokyo hospitals;
- provide quick and accurate information so that general medical institutes and Tokyo citizens can take appropriate action;
- give full consideration to the protection of the basic human rights of infected individuals;
- support small- and mid-sized businesses in industries such as tourism which could suffer from the consequences; and
- take measures to protect employees of public health centers, metropolitan hospitals, and metropolitan public transport who have a higher possibility of having contact with infected persons.
