U.S. President Donald Trump on May 29 expressed his intent to sever relations with the World Health Organization (WHO). It is serious that a major country will secede from the international framework when the entire world should bond together to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on the following day on Twitter wrote, "The withdrawal from the WHO is a profound mistake as it causes another difficulty to achieve international cooperation to help end the coronavirus pandemic."
He tweeted, "In the latest WHO assembly, member countries, including the U.S., unanimously adopted a resolution calling for a review of the WHO's handling of the virus. If the U.S. has something to say against WHO actions, it should speak up as a WHO member." Shii demanded that President Trump retract his announcement to pull out of the WHO.
