A total of 4,513 elderly people took part in a two-day rally and adopted a special resolution calling on the public to increase movements to immediately abolish the discriminatory medical system for the elderly aged 75 and over and to improve the nursing care insurance system.

In the 24th National Conference of Elderly held in Mito City in Ibaraki Prefecture on September 13 and 14, they exchanged their views and experiences on various movements, including a movement to prevent the aged from losing contact with society.

Yamada Eisaku, secretary general of the rally’s organizing committee, pointed out that while elderly people are experiencing hardships with the increased poverty rate, the Democratic Party of Japan government forces the people to live under difficult conditions without providing any solution.

He also called on the participants to launch a movement to prevent elderly people from being isolated from communities and the general society, a movement for the immediate abolition of the discriminatory medical system for the elderly and for the improvement of the nursing care insurance system, a movement to establish a world without nuclear weapons, and a movement to create a convention on elderly people’s rights.
