Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on September 14 held talks with outgoing South Korean Minister to Japan, Kim Kyunghan, at the JCP head office.
Kim thanked the JCP for the cooperation he has received since his arrival in March 2018 and recalled his efforts to improve and develop the Japan-ROK relations.
In response, Shii also expressed his respect for Kim's efforts, saying that the root cause of the disputes between Japan and South Korea is Japan's past colonial rule and that Japan's sincere remorse for its wartime and colonial past is essential to build true Japan-ROK friendship.
Kim and Shii exchanged views on Japan-ROK cooperation in the effort to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic as this will also be of great help establishing better relations between Japan and South Korea.
