September 20 and 21, 2020
Former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo on September 19 paid a visit to Yasukuni Shrine, which justifies Japan’s war of aggression, for the first time in seven years.
The last time Abe visited the controversial shrine was December 2013 during his tenure as prime minister. Since then, he had not been there, but he did not fail to offer “sakaki” tree branches and money to the shrine on the occasions of shrine festivals in spring and autumn.
Regarding Abe’s Yasukuni visit, the South Korean foreign ministry on September 19 issued a comment expressing its deep concern.
