The Japanese Communist Party and two other opposition parties in the Tokyo’s Adachi Ward Assembly on October 6 made representations to the assembly chair to demand that the chair instruct a Liberal Democratic Party assembly member to retract his discriminatory remark against LGBTQ people and offer an apology.
LDP lawmaker Shiraishi Masateru on September 28 at a plenary session of the Ward Assembly remarked that the district will be ruined if LGBTQ people pervade, and that for humans, creating a “normal family” is more valuable than anything else.
In the representations, JCP assemblyperson Nukaga Kazuko criticized Shiraishi’s remark for rejecting diversity and insulting sexual minorities. She stressed the need to take a firm stance against discriminatory remarks.
A lawmaker of a local political party in the ward assembly reported on the reactions of LGBTQ people such as, “I got really upset and angry at the LDP assemblyperson’s remark.”
In response, Assembly Chair Shikahama Akira expressed his intent to consider taking necessary action.
